These cannon
(and carronade on the right and below) are drawn to scale using accurate
line drawings and models. The scenes are created using pictures, descriptions,
and photos of models and period ships.
The carronade is based on a 1/50th scale wooden model of an English
carronade for a model ship exhibition. On the right is a splash
screen I was going to use for my ship building club website until
common sense overrode my ego.
This is a scaled model of
U.S.S. Cairo, a Federal casemate ironclad that fought on the western
rivers until hitting a mine and sinking in 1863. The wreck was discovered
in the early '60's, recovered and restored, and is on display in Vicksburg,
Mississippi.
This is a German MK2G light tank from early World War 2. I used
a 1/35 scale model and photographs to recreate it.
All of these illustrations were created in 3DS Max.
